Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, expressed his worries in reaction to the sit-at-home directives that have halted business and social activities in the South East area.

According to SurgeZirc NG sources, Peter Obi issued a message on Thursday on his Twitter account in response to calls for powerful South East figures to reject the sit-at-home directive.

He claimed that the current situation in the South East is criminal and requires quick action. To effectively handle this issue, he underlined the significance of coordination between security authorities and the people of the region.

Former Anambra state Governor also expressed thanks for the South East Governors’ increased efforts to combat insecurity within the state.

He did, however, emphasise the importance of a more deliberate and intelligence-driven approach to alleviating the suffering of innocent people.

Obi asked for immediate action to address the mounting concerns of escalating insecurity in the North Central zone, particularly in the Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, as well as criminal activities in the South East.

“The rising insecurity in the country leading to mindless bloodletting, particularly in the country’s North Central zone, and the continued disruption of business and social activities in the South East are all very concerning,” he said.

“It is intolerable that hundreds of innocent lives are being wasted in Nigeria needlessly as a result of communal clashes, bandits, and kidnapping activities.”

“The situation in Plateau state’s Mangu Local Government Area has caused a lot of concern because of the number of lives and properties lost with little resistance from security operatives.”

“Also troubling is the continued disruption of business and social activities in the South East region as a result of the Sit-at-home directive purportedly issued by the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB, despite the body’s public denial of issuing such a directive.”

“What is going on in the South East is essentially a criminal activity that must be stopped, with all hands on deck, security agencies, and the people alike.
