Niger State Governor Abubakar Sani Bello has ordered for the deployment of security personnel in high-risk zones around the state.

According to the statement, the Governor said this while receiving the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Zone ‘7’, Aliyu Garba, on a courtesy visit to the Government House in Niger Minna.

The Governor informed the AIG that the state has experienced relative quiet thanks to the efforts of security officers, but that its biggest issue was the rise of youth restiveness. He stated that bandit attacks are recurrent in a few villages in the state, causing the state to restless at night.

The Governor stated that a big number of bandits stormed the Kumbashi area and engaged security personnel, but that the number of casualties was unknown. He did, however, indicate that one of the security agents’ commanders paid the ultimate price, and that the bandits had gone to the Rijau area.

Governor Bello bemoaned the inadequacy of security troops in relation to the size of the state, noting that there were no special police units in the Rijau area. As AIG Zone 7 and a Nigerlite, you have a better understanding of the terrain. At this point, I will appeal to you on behalf of the state government to use whatever means you have at the headquarters to ensure that we have adequate boots on the ground.

We need more mobile squads stationed in sensitive areas to limit the movement of these bandits into Niger State from neighboring states, he stated.

Garba had previously stated that his visit was to become acquainted with the Governor and to see how the police could effectively coordinate with other security agencies in the state to address the crisis.
