William Saliba committed his future to Arsenal earlier today, by signing a new long-term contract at the Emirates.

The 22-year-old French centre-back, who played a crucial role in Arsenal’s unexpected challenge for the Premier League title last season, reportedly agreed to a four-year deal.

According to reports, the new contract will be worth £10 million ($13 million) per season.

Saliba’s presence was sorely missed when he suffered a back injury towards the end of the campaign, which coincided with a decline in form for Mikel Arteta’s squad.

This resulted in Manchester City retaining their title.

Arteta expressed his delight at securing Saliba’s contract extension, stating, “To have William extend his contract with us was something we have wanted to do for a long time.

“William proved last season just how good and important he is to our squad.

“At just 22 years old, his ability is exciting, and there is still plenty of room for further development at this stage of his career.”

Saliba had one year remaining on his previous contract, which he signed when he joined Arsenal from Saint-Etienne in 2019 for £27 million.

However, he spent the majority of the past three seasons on loan at clubs in France, including Saint-Etienne, Nice, and Marseille.

His impressive performances at Marseille earned him his first call-up to the French national team, and he was in the squad that reached the World Cup final in Qatar last year.

Saliba joins teammates Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Aaron Ramsdale in recently signing new contracts, showing Arsenal’s commitment to securing their key players’ futures.

Furthermore, Arsenal is reportedly close to bolstering their squad significantly in their quest to become champions of England for the first time in 20 years.
