PDP G-5, which includes former governors Nyesom Wike, Samuel Ortom, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and Okezie Ikpeazu of Rivers, Benue, Enugu, and Abia states, is seeking appointment and protection from the Federal Government, Atiku stated.

In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku stated that their decision not to support his presidential candidature in 2023 has nothing to do with patriotism.

In response to former Ekiti State governor Ayo Fayose’s statements about why he did not support the PDP presidential candidate in the last election, the former vice president said the latter should have been bold enough to campaign for President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress in the last election.

The G-5 and its allies, including Fayose, had declined to participate in the PDP presidential campaign due to disagreements with the opposition party following the presidential primaries.

Atiku pointed out that the former Ekiti governor, who revealed in a television interview that he worked against his party in the last presidential election, was just going from pillar to post to get Tinubu to drop his N1.7 billion corruption case before the Federal High Court.

On September 20, 2022, Fayose, while addressing his supporters in Ado Ekiti, publicly stated that despite Wike’s protests, he would support Atiku Abubakar.

Following Tinubu’s dubious victory, Fayose quickly reversed his position, claiming that he was the one who delivered Ekiti State to the APC.
