NAFDAC, also known as the Nigerian Food and Drug Administration, has issued a warning against the consumption and sale of Whippy Real Mayonnaise in the country until further notice.
The announcement is contained in a public alert No. 024/2023, which was sent to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Abuja by the agency’s Director-General, Prof Mojisola Adeyeye.

According to Adeyeye, the product was identified after a consumer complaint was received and reviewed by the agency’s post-marketing surveillance section in Ilorin, Kwara State.
She stated that the products were obtained locally from the producer, SNF FOODS Limited, located in Onitsha, Anambra State.
The NAFDAC chief revealed that samples were drawn at random from several batches of the product laboratory analysis in NAFDAC labs.
According to her, the agency’s laboratory investigation of the product yielded unacceptable results.
Adeyeye stated that while the items were still within their shelf life, they had gone rancid and had a different colour from the original mayonnaise.
The DG stated that all agency zonal directors and state coordinators had been asked to conduct surveillance and clean up the implicated batches of the unwholesome goods.
She gave the following address for the manufacturer: Plot 52, Harbour Industrial Estate, Pokobros Avenue, Off Atani Road, Onitsha, Ogbaru Local Government Area, Anambra State, with product pack sizes of 245g and 460g in plastic bottles.
She also revealed the product’s manufacturing date as June 2022, with a Best Before date of December 2023.
Batch numbers: OA2GP220614A (Pack size 245g), OA2GP220611A, and OA2GP220617A (Pack size 460g), as well as NAFDAC Reg.No.: A8-0700, are other product details.
Adeyeye, on the other hand, urged distributors, retailers, and consumers to be cautious and vigilant in order to avoid consuming, selling, or distributing the tainted batches of Whippy Real Mayonnaise.
The legitimacy and physical condition of the products, according to her, should be carefully examined.

She asked anyone in possession of the batches of Whippy Real Mayonnaise to report it to the nearest NAFDAC office.
“Consumers are also encouraged to report any negative effects of the product, through the use of the E-reporting platforms available on the NAFDAC website www.nafdac.gov.ng.”
