The movie ‘Rust,’ in which Halyna Hutchins was filming before Alec Baldwin accidentally killed her with a prop gun, has a $6 million insurance policy.
Front Row Insurance Brokers wrote the certificate of insurance that TMZ got, and the general liability coverage is restricted to $1 million per incident. A business umbrella policy, which is a $5 million supplement to the general liability coverage, is also provided.
The film’s production firm applied for a permit, and the documentation shows a $1 million insurance policy, but it appears to be the bare minimum for shooting in New Mexico.
The money, however, is thought to be insufficient because Hutchins, 42, was a rising star with decades of earnings ahead of her. She was also a mother and a wife, allowing her kid and spouse to claim for affectionate loss.
Remember that the film’s director, Joel Souza, was also shot and injured, and may have a personal injury claim. The insurance company’s maximum payout for both Halyna Hutchins and Souza is $6 million.
In New Mexico, however, a jury could award punitive damages if there is proof of carelessness or willful misconduct, which could send any judgment into the stratosphere.

There was considerable negligence on the set, according to reports. A genuine gun was used, which according to gun experts on set is a blatant breach. The gun discharged a lethal live round of ammunition, which should never be used on a movie set. Also, the area directly in the line of fire should have been cleared of people, but it wasn’t.
The gun in question was apparently not thoroughly inspected before being given to Alec Baldwin. This comes after it was revealed that some members of the crew were practicing target shooting with real bullets with that gun. And it’s possible that someone was doing exactly that on the set hours before the shooting began.
