The Imo House of Assembly on Monday impeached its Speaker, Mr Paul Emeziem (APC-Onuimo), at a special sitting days after Amara Iwuanyanwu was removed as deputy.

Although details of the impeachment process was sketchy at the time of this report, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) gathered that Emeziem’s removal followed a resolution signed by 19 out of the 27 members of the house.

Meanwhile, Mr Kennedy Ibeh (APC- Obowo), a second term member of the state Assembly, has emerged the new speaker.

NAN further reports that the members, who conducted the special plenary under closed door, hurriedly left the assembly premises thereafter.

NAN recalls that the Deputy Speaker, Mr Amarachi Iwuanyanwu, was earlier impeached on Nov. 2, following a resolution signed by 18 members.

SurgeZirc earlier reports Imo State House of Assembly Deputy Speaker, Amara Iwuanyanwu, was also removed amid tight security during the plenary, last week.

Ekene Nnodim, who represents Orlu state constituency, submitted a resolution signed by 18 out of the 27 lawmakers for the removal of Iwuanyanwu as the Deputy Speaker.

The now impeached Speaker, Paul Emezim, who presided over the plenary, approved the removal of Iwuanyanwu.

Meanwhile, the House of Assembly also recalled six suspended lawmakers of the state legislature.

This came four months after the Speaker had controversially suspended the lawmakers on what he tagged “unparliamentary conduct”.

In related development, eight (8) lawmakers impeached the Speaker of Plateau State House Assembly, Hon Abok Ayuba Nuhu, last month.

Nuhu was replaced with Sanda Yakubu, who hails from Pingana constituency of Bassa Local Government Area of the state.

Credible sources revealed that, the speculations over the impeachment got heightened when a secret meeting between seven members of the house of assembly and some top members of the executive was leaked to several social media platforms.

In that meeting, plans were perfected on how the seven lawmakers in that meeting will be guided and securely led to the assembly complex to carry out the impeachment process.
