In a speech to press following the monthly Security council meeting at Government house in Benin City, the state capital, Obaseki stated that as much as Edo State is a transportation hub and it connects to various parts of the Country, its Federal Road network is in bad shape.
He stated that his administration has done all possible to get the Federal Government to look into the restoration of Edo State’s extensive network of damaged Federal Roads.
Obaseki further stated that his administration has attracted the Federal Government’s attention to the failed sections of the Benin-Auchi Roads, the Benin-Sapele Road, and the Benin-Lagos Road, particularly the Ovia River Bridge, but nothing has been done.
“The issue on the Benin-Lagos Road, particularly the Ovia River Crossing, is becoming catastrophic,” he said.
We have lost a lot of lives and tried everything to get the Federal Government and the Federal Ministry of Works to work with us and put an end to the carnage on that road.
He stated about Sapele Road, “We have done everything possible.” We don’t know what to do to refocus the federal government’s attention on these roads.”
