Former Vice-President and PDP’s presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has received hundreds of defectors who moved to the opposition party on Monday in Yola.

Atiku Abubakar assured them that the party would be fair and just to them all. “We expect you to work assiduously toward our victory in the 2023 general elections,” he said.

He stated that because the ban on electioneering campaigns was still in effect, the PDP, as a law-abiding party, would wait for the appropriate time to begin its campaign.

Atiku Abubakar also noted that he joined the presidential race to serve the people of Nigeria. “My visit today is just a home coming because I have not been home since when I won the primary election of my party,” he said.

The former Vice-President praised Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri for his accomplishments in security, infrastructure, education, health, and internal democracy in the state’s PDP family.

Atiku urged the people to continue supporting him to enable him keep delivering more dividends of democracy to them through the provision of social services throughout the state.

Meanwhile, Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri stated that his administration has provided the people of the state with democratic dividends. “We have fullfilled about 80 per cent of our campaign promises,” Fintiri said.

The Gov. claimed that his administration spent billions of naira on the construction of two playovers and overhead bridges in Yola, among other things.

He expressed confidence that the PDP would win the 2023 general elections, while urging party supporters to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards.

The Lamido of Adamawa, Alhaji Barkindo Mustapha, congratulated Abubakar on securing the PDP presidential ticket for the 2023 election. He urged politicians to follow the rules of politics by refraining from acts that could jeopardize the nation’s peace and unity.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, two serving APC lawmakers in the state House of Assembly were among the defectors.
