Oloyede stated that a cut-off mark of 100 has been accepted for admission to polytechnics and colleges of education.

He noted that the aforementioned items were the bare minimum, but that this did not imply that institutions had to follow them.

He also stated that each higher institution must ensure its own basic quality, particularly in terms of institutional screening and grading in the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE).

All institutions must adhere to this bare minimum. This means that no institution can fall short of the criteria. The 140 is sacred and must not be breached by the 15 private universities that wanted between 120 and 130 as minimum points. This is because the system put in place will not recognize 139, he explained.

The board also announced a “Bring Your Own Device” plan for the Unified Tertiary Matriculations Examinations (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE).

According to JAMB, the proposal would allow applicants to take the exams on their mobile phones.

Oloyede stated that the board had continued to spend large sums of money on examinations, therefore the need for the initiative.

We are considering the direction for JAMB students to bring their phones. It reduces capital investment but does not improve digital literacy. A mobile examination malpractice tribunal would be established to deal with the criminal aspect while institutions deal with the wrongdoing.

On cybercrime, we will be collaborating with security operatives and relevant agencies, engaging the machinery and sponsoring them to tap into their knowledge of candidates.

The relocation of some services to the registration portal to prevent extortion and the use of open book exams to deter cheating.
