Odion Ighalo hopes his loan deal at Manchester United is extended until the Premier League season is completed. The Nigerian striker moved from the Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua in January and has a contract that lasts until May 31, 2020.

Premier League bosses hope to resume the season in June, but with The Chinese Super League also planning a restart, Ighalo may have to return to Shanghai Shenhua.

In an interview with BBC Sport, Ighalo said: “I would like to finish the season if it’s possible. I was in good form, good shape, I scored goals but now football has been suspended for over a month.

“I’ve given it my best and hopefully, we’ll come back to play. The team had good momentum before the start of the pandemic. At the moment I’m on loan, and this will cut short my time at the club.”

He also said that the club, himself, and every other footballer is going through a lot because they can’t do what they love and what they know how to do best. He added that they are all looking forward to finishing the season before thinking about his contract extension.

Odion Ighalo has been prolific at Manchester United, scoring four goals in eight games for the Reds in all competitions, including finding the back of the net once in the 5-0 win over LASK in the Europa League last-16 tie on March 12, 2020, just a day before the Premier League season was suspended.

On Monday, May 11, 2020, Premier League clubs will meet to discuss a resumption date for the season.
