FG Approves N75k Per Semester For Students Studying Education  

The Federal Government (FG) of Nigeria has approved the payment of N75,000 per semester as a stipend for students studying education in public varsities across the country.

Adamu Adamu, minister of education, broke the news on Tuesday in Abuja on the occasion of this year’s World Teacher’s Day celebration.

Adamu, who was represented by Sonny Echono, permanent secretary of the ministry, said students who are undergoing National Certificate in Education (NCE) programme, will also get N50,000.

He said his ministry would also collaborate with state governments to ensure those who studied education in public tertiary institutions get automatic employment upon graduation. 

According to the minister, the initiative is part of President Muhammadu Buhari’s efforts to make teaching attractive to the best brains in the country.

“Undergraduate students of B.Ed / B.A. Ed/ BSc. Ed in Public institutions are to receive stipends of N75,000.00 per semester while NCE students will get N50,000.00 as stipends per semester,” he said.

“Federal Government should find the modality through which respective states’ governments could provide automatic employment for NCE graduates at Basic Education level.”

Adamu said the ministry would also liaise with education ministries across the federation to identify respective courses of study required by each state. “Beneficiaries must attend public institutions only and sign a bond to serve their state for five (5) years on graduation,” he added.
