The Edo state governor Godwin Obaseki has responded to his counterpart, Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano state, who accused him of failing woefully and said he is a liability to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Recall that Ganduje, who is the chairman of the APC campaign council, said his party would take advantage of Obaseki’s alleged failure during the September 19 election.

However, Obaseki responded in a statement issued on his behalf by his spokesperson Crusoe Osagie, stating Ganduje is not in a position to judge his performance because of the “baggage of the viral video of him stuffing dollars collected from contractors.”

In 2018, Daily Nigerian, an online platform released videos of Ganduje collecting bribes from contractors, however, the governor denied collecting the kickbacks and said his opponents used the videos to attack him.

The statement read, “The comment by Governor Ganduje on the performance of Governor Obaseki in the office is at best laughable. It is also disgraceful because the APC has apparently misconstrued the meaning of performance because it is verifiable that Governor Obaseki’s unprecedented performance across different sectors of the state is what endeared him to Edo people.

“No amount of lame talk from the APC and their campaign handlers can erase these projects which litter the nooks and crannies of Edo State.”

The statement also revealed that Obaseki has been doing an exceptional job in the state and he has been providing sustainable developments to the people of Edo. It further stated that it is essential to put some of the government’s progress in view so that the community can judge.

In addition, the statement also listed all the projects that were completed or which are on the verge of being completed by the Obaseki-led government. The statement added that the people of Edo were pleased with Obaseki’s performance.
