The candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu said his counterpart, Godwin Obaseki should be held liable for the violent attacks in the state.
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has condemned the violent election campaigns held by certain political parties in the Edo state and threatened to suspend the September 19 elections if there is violence, Ize-Iyamu has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, over the recent political attacks in the state.

Speaking to journalists on Friday, August 2020, after meeting President Muhammadu Buhari, Ize-Iyamu revealed that the governor has been promoting violent attacks during election campaigns in the state. “On the issue of violence that you mentioned if you ask your correspondents in Edo, It is the governor that has been beating the war drums. My billboards are being vandalised, nobody has touched their own,” he said.
Obaseki was also accused of intimidating populaces in the state and supporting students to interrupt his PDP counterpart’s election campaign initiation on Saturday, August 8, 2020.
“We wrote petitions to the commissioner of police, the Director DSS, and they will attest to the fact that on a regular basis they are destroying our billboards. They are the ones that want to make the state ungovernable and I am sure you heard the governor say that he and his deputy have immunity and so they can deal with anybody,” stated the pastor.

Furthermore, the APC candidate said they are not looking to start a war with any political party because they believe in peace and he appealed to the opposition party to do the same. “So we are not beating any war drum, we believe in peace, our president believes in peace, our party leaders believe in peace and we cannot disappoint them.
“So I can assure you that on our part, we will conduct ourselves in a peaceful manner, our campaign will be done peacefully, the elections by the grace God will be done peaceful,” added Ize-Iyamu.
