CAN To Assist Tackle Insecurity Issues In Kaduna State

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has announced that it is committed to working with the state government and security agencies to assist tackle the issue of insecurity in Kaduna.

As part of the organisation’s effort to address the issue in the state, CAN has commended the deployment of troops to southern Kaduna, following the reported cases of attacks in the state, which led to the loss of lives and properties.

The CAN president, Samson Ayokunle has also expressed the organisation’s willingness to assist the state government and security agencies to find a permanent solution to the crisis in the area. When the organisation paid a visit to Nasir el-Rufai, governor of Kaduna on Monday at the council chamber of Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Ayokunle pointed out that the crisis existed before the current administration, and advised the state government to learn “from the past in order to draw a roadmap for the future,”

The CAN leader also noted that the crisis has led to people giving it religious or ethnic labels, because it has given them an opportunity to say “whatever they are saying”. He further commended the government to bring killers who are variously referred to as “unknown gunmen” to book, noting that the level of prosecution so far is not balanced to the occurrence of attacks.

“The Christian Association of Nigeria is ready to partner with your government and security agents in finding a solution to this matter. Let there be a round table discussion and a pledge of cooperation rather than confrontation,” he added.

Ayokunle said that “whoever attacks first and whoever is doing reprisal are both criminals that must be made to face the wrath of the law.” He also expressed sadness over the loss of the lives and pledged to consider the eight recommendations made by CAN.
