Some embittered supporters of the People Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State, embarked on a protest on Thursday in Yenagoa, over the reported indiscriminate disqualification of three candidates for the Central Senatorial bye-election.
Those disqualified are a former Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Monday-Bubou Obolo, the former Secretary to Bayelsa State Government, Chief Gideon Ekeuwei, and a former Director-General of the Bayelsa State Geographical Integrated Service, Igo Assembly Goin.

It was reported that the PDP screening committee banned the three senatorial aspirants for the ambition of the immediate past state Chairman of the party, Cleopas Moses.
The angry party supporters took it to the streets of Yenagoa and blamed the immediate past governor, Seriake Dickson of suspected manipulation of the screening process to pave the way for the emergence of the former chairman as recompense for loyalty.

The former speaker who is currently the leader of the State Assembly, Obolo was reportedly disqualified for improper membership of the PDP. Furthermore, Chief Ekeuwei was apparently disqualified for not possessing a valid passport photograph on his expression of interest form; while Goin was excluded for alleged low performance in the activities of the party in the state.
However, the embittered PDP members were reportedly called for party primaries, saying a level playing for all the aspirants.
