The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has suspended its planned protest and strike action over electricity tariff and fuel price hike.

Recall that the NLC and the Nigerian Trade Union (TUC) threatened to embark on a nationwide strike on Monday, September 28, 2020, if the Federal Government fails to avert the hikes, despite the two court orders warning them and their associates from continuing with the strike.

However, the labour union agreed to suspend the planned strike after having a meeting with the federal government. It would be further recalled that the House of Representatives has proposed to offer certain palliatives to avert the planned protest by the unions.

Therefore, an agreement was reached between the unions and the federal government after holding the meeting. According to reports, the labour appealed to the government to roll out palliatives to cushion the effect of new energy costs. New electricity prices will be now suspended for two weeks.
