The British High Commission has said it will begin talks with the Nigerian Government over the re-arrest of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB).

Dean Hurlock, a spokesperson for the British High Commission, revealed that the commission is “in the process of seeking clarification” from the federal government of Nigeria over Kanu’s re-arrest.

Hurlock also said that the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office “stands ready to provide consular assistance,” for Nnamdi Kanu who holds a British passport and that was arrested by Nigerian security agents and extradited to Nigeria on Sunday.

According to the Nigerian Government, the IPOB leader is facing trial on eleven count charges.
