President Muhammadu Buhari has praised the security agencies’ cooperation in the unlawful operations against Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Igboho.
His spokesman, Garba Shehu, stated that the operation was carried out in close coordination with the arrests of individuals who had caused pain and hardship to fellow citizens.
Shehu claimed without evidence in a statement that Kanu and the leaders of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) are known for murderous actions and virulent messaging.
He confirmed that Kanu was handed over to the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and then repatriated as a result of the “international operation” against him a move that legal experts have referred to as “abduct” rather than arrest.
According to the aid, IPOB-inspired violence has resulted in hundreds of deaths, with a particular focus on government assets and law enforcement agents, rather than stating that ESN, the armed group of IPOB is charged with the duty of repelling killer Fulani Herdsmen who have killed thousands of innocent farmers and local community residents.
“There have been at last count, fifty separate violent attacks, heavily concentrated in the South-East, which heaped further hardship on our honest and hardworking citizens, preventing them from earning their livelihood and going about their normal lives.”
Buhari through Shehu confirmed that the government had been monitoring IPOB’s activities and had reason to believe that their funding came from proceeds of suspected illegal criminal activities.
The raid on Igboho’s home was lauded by the statement, who “has also been conducting acts of terror and disturbing the peace under the guise of protecting fellow kinsmen.”
Shehu went on to say that his seditious utterances and antics, which he publicly expressed, had morphed into very hateful and vile-laden speeches over time.
He emphasized that the government respects citizens’ fundamental right to express themselves and recognizes this as a democratic tenet.
“However, any attempt to build an armoury coupled with plans either subtle or expressed to undermine our unity as a nation will not be condoned.
“Mr President’s directives to Security Services regarding anyone seen to be carrying arms, particularly AK-47 are clear and require no further illumination.
“Assault weapons are not tools of peace-loving people and as such, regardless of who they are and where they are from, the Security Agencies should treat them all the same.”
Shehu stated that the accomplishments of our security agencies must be lauded because they have shown significant deftness, guile, and secrecy in carrying out these missions.
It is especially troubling that the deftness of Nigerian security agencies is manifested on Kanu and Igboho, who fight against Fulani herdsmen, while President Buhari was completely quiet while Killer herdsmen were killing innocent Nigerians.
