To differentiate itself from the many over-ear headsets available for consoles, Razer will release a new version of its Hammerhead wireless earbuds for PlayStation and Xbox in November for $149.99.

The Hammerhead HyperSpeed will be colored differently for each console (white with blue accents for PlayStation, black with green for Xbox). This model has active noise cancellation as well as Chroma RGB lighting effects.

Because the Series X / S consoles lack a USB-C port, each comes with a USB-C audio transmitter as well as a USB-C-to-A adapter. As expected, each version handles connectivity differently, but they both support 2.4GHz wireless and Bluetooth 5.2 for pairing with mobile devices.

Will Powers, Razer’s PR lead, told The Verge that the Xbox version is the definitive model because it can connect to Xbox consoles as well as PlayStation consoles (this requires a special security chip in the audio transmitter). If you must have the PS-themed colorway, keep in mind that it is less compatible than the Xbox version despite being the same price.

Razer claims that the USB-C HyperSpeed transmitter will deliver low-latency audio performance (ranging from 25-35ms) and that you’ll get up to 30 hours of total use with the charging case, but the buds themselves last about eight hours per charge.

The Hammerhead HyperSpeed is equipped with dual “environmental noise canceling” microphones, which the company claims will provide clear vocals.

Wireless gaming earbuds for consoles and other platforms are the most recent trend to hit the gaming headset market, with brands such as HyperX and Logitech launching models in 2022.

Razer is no stranger to creating gamer-friendly earbuds, especially for mobile gamers, but the Hammerhead HyperSpeed aims to provide more features for console gamers.
