His arrest sparked conflicting reactions, with the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) apologizing to Mrs Buhari for the tweet.
The tweet, posted on June 8, reads: “Su mama anchi kudin talkawa ankoshi.” Muhammad’s tweet, accompanied by a photo of Aisha, loosely translates as “Mama has eaten poor people’s money and is now full”.
He was arraigned in Maitama before Justice Yusuf Halilu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, where he pleaded not guilty and was remanded at Suleja prison in Niger State.
Aminu was charged with cybercrime, cybersquatting, forgery, conspiracy, and criminal breach of trust.
However, the prosecution counsel, Fidelis Ogbobe, stated on Friday that the First Lady, as the nation’s mother, decided to withdraw the case after the intervention of well-meaning Nigerians.
He moved the application for case withdrawal under Section 108 subsection 2(a) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act.
In his decision, Justice Halilu praised Mrs Buhari for taking brave steps to forgive the accused.
