One day after releasing The Callisto Protocol to mixed reviews, developer Striking Distance Studios is releasing a patch to address stuttering issues in the PC version.
The studio promised that the hotfix would “improve performance,” and that “a number of additional updates” would follow.

PC players have taken to YouTube, Reddit, and other online forums to complain about The Callisto Protocol’s performance issues since its release.
After nearly 10,000 player reviews on Steam, the game currently has a “Mixed” rating, with the majority of negative posts complaining about the game’s technical flaws.
Digital Foundry describes the issues in a recent video about the game. The Callisto Protocol, according to the source, does not precompile its shaders. That is a big no-no for a PC Unreal Engine 4 game.
Players can expect massive stuttering nearly every time The Callisto Protocol introduces new assets or shows something for the first time, with the effect being worse on PCs with older and less powerful CPUs.
It’s difficult to say how much the first patch fixes the shader compilation issue. Some Twitter users report a “huge” difference, but the issue isn’t entirely resolved.

There are still plenty of micro stutters visible in the few YouTube videos that document how the update affects performance. If you want to play The Callisto Protocol on a PC, I would recommend waiting before purchasing the game.
