President Muhammadu Buhari reiterated his commitment to hand over power to any candidate elected as president on May 29, 2023.

Buhari made the remarks in a statement issued by his media aide, Malam Garba Shehu, in response to Mr Shakib Ben Musa, the Minister of National Education, Pre-School, and Sports of the Kingdom of Morocco, who visited the State House in Abuja as King Mohammed the VI’s Special Envoy.

According to the constitution, the President’s term will end on Monday, May 29, 2023, following the inauguration of a new president. Buhari promised Musa in his brief remark that he would study the message and respond accordingly.

He also stated that he would continue to cherish and strengthen Nigeria’s warm and cordial relations with Morocco.

The Special Envoy, accompanied by Mr Moha Ou Ali Tagma, the Kingdom’s resident representative in Nigeria, emphasized the King, the government, and the people of Morocco’s friendship and solidarity with Nigeria.

Meanwhile, the presidential election in 2023 is only 80 days away, and the three leading candidates, Labour Party (LP), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and All Progressive Congress (APC) have all made public their manifestos which speak to how they intend to govern the most populous nation in Africa.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), for its part, has declared its readiness to hold a credible, free, and fair election next year, despite attacks on its Local Government offices in some parts of the country.
