Although the incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, youths who heard about it protested at the Elemoro Area Command beginning at 8 a.m. on Wednesday. According to reports, the protesting youths blocked expressways and made it impossible for vehicles to pass.
As the crowd grew, the police allegedly used tear gas to scare them away, but that only made the situation worse. The riotous crowd was alleged to have vandalized properties and was attempting to burn down the police station.
Some residents who took to social media to warn commuters not to take that route claimed that the crowd was attacking police officers on Ajah Road. In response to the incident, police spokesman SP Benjamin Hundeyin stated that the Inspector was disarmed and detained.
He said, “At About 2330hrs of Tuesday, December 06 2022, a shooting incident involving men of Ajah Division, resulted in the unfortunate death of Gafaru Buraimoh of Happy Land Estate, Ajah.
