Bandits abducted 46 people over the weekend in Katsina State’s Batsari and Funtua local government areas.
One person was killed and 28 people were abducted in Karare village, Batsari Local Government Area, according to a source.

He explained that the gunmen stormed the village early in the morning and fled with the victims, who included about 40 women and children riding on motorcycles.
According to the source, most of the students abducted were from Kokiya village on their way to Government Day Secondary School in Karare.
He added, “the attackers came from the southern part of the village and started shooting sporadically, which resulted in the death of one person.”
According to the source, the bandits kidnapped 28 people, including students, but later released four of them.

The source also said that those released included one Malam Ladan and three children after they sent them a message saying they would not accept old naira notes for ransom.
According to him, one other person escaped, while 23 people are currently with the bandits, and the abductors have not demanded a ransom at the time of this report.
