In light of the 2023 general elections, Olu Fasan, a public affairs analyst and columnist, believes Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, will most likely cause an upset and force a rerun.

Fasan wrote in his weekly column on Thursday, January 19, 2023, that while Obi would unlikely win on the first ballot, he might emerge as President Muhammadu Buhari’s successor through a run-off.
“Obi must secure (1) a majority of the votes cast nationally and (2) 25 per cent of the votes cast in at least 24 states and the FCT, Abuja.
“To meet those constitutional requirements, he must win massively across the country, North and South! But can Obi garner enough votes across Nigeria—North and South—to win the election on the first ballot?
“That would be truly seismic and epochal, but most hard-headed analysts would say it’s improbable.
“More likely, Obi would cause an upset and force a rerun,” Fasan wrote.
Peter Obi of the Labour Party enjoys great support from mostly young Nigerians. It is also important to know that INEC has declared that the majority of the voters in this election are the youth, so much so that they will decide the elections.
The Nigerian presidential election is scheduled to hold on 25 February 2023.
