Nigerian student on his way to Cyprus, was apprehended at Abuja Airport with drugs hidden in crayfish packages.

The Narcotics agency detained Daberechi, who was on his way to Cyprus for studies, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

Benjamin Nnamani Daberechi, 19, was detained by National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) operatives for attempting to transport 7.2 kilogrammes of methamphetamine concealed in crayfish to Europe, where he was headed for undergraduate studies.

The narcotics agency detained Daberechi, who was on his way to Cyprus for studies, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

Femi Babafemi, NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, issued a statement on According to a statement issued on Sunday, the juvenile suspect was apprehended on Wednesday, July 12, during an outbound inspection of passengers on Turkish Airlines aircraft TK 0624.

“The teenage suspect was intercepted on Wednesday 12th July, during an outward clearance of passengers on Turkish Airlines flight TK 0624,” according to the statement.

“Daberechi claimed to operatives that he was a student on his way to Cyprus for studies, but a thorough search of his luggage revealed that he was in possession of 7.2kg of whitish substance neatly concealed inside a sack of crayfish.” However, a field test of the material revealed that it contained Methamphetamine.

“However, on Tuesday, July 11th, a joint examination with Nigeria Customs, DSS, and other stakeholders resulted in the discovery of 123 bags of illicit substances stuffed in a bag covered with vehicle spare parts.

“NDLEA operatives from the Directorate of Operation and General Investigations, DOGI, in Lagos also foiled attempts to export various quantities of illicit substances through courier companies.”

While 336 grammes of skunk were discovered inside computer hard drives bound for Dubai, UAE, a suspect, Ibrahim Analu, 28, was apprehended at Iddo motor park in Lagos while attempting to transport 151,700 opioid pills to Kaduna.
