“The lockdown provided me with a rare opportunity to reflect on my music. I wanted to try something new, and that’s when I delved into the captivating world of afrobeats.”
Transitioning from rap to afrobeats presented Victony with new challenges. “Afrobeats demands relatability while maintaining poetic depth,” Victony explained. “It’s about finding that balance, being metaphorical, and unleashing my creativity in the writing process.”
Life took an unexpected turn for Victony when a tragic car accident left him wheelchair-bound for a year and took the life of his dear friend.
Recalling those trying times, he shared, “Music became my refuge and my strength. It helped me cope with the physical and emotional pain, providing hope when I needed it most.”
Even during his time in a wheelchair, Victony’s musical spirit remained unyielding. Speaking about his collaboration with Mayorkun on the poignant track ‘Holy Father,’ he humbly stated, “The overwhelming support and love I received from fans and fellow artists motivated me to complete my project and build upon our success.”
