NASS Begins New Committee Selection

NASS has begun a new selection of committee in both the Senate and the House of Representatives, and there is said to be underhanded deals regarding the composition of the National Assembly’s standing committees.

According to SurgeZirc NG, senators and House members are unsure of their fate because the process of allocating them to various steering committees of the two chambers has been hijacked by the Presidency, with desperate ones reportedly parting with large bribes to be allocated juicy committees.

Prominent assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is said to have stolen the process from Senate President Godswill Akpabio and House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas.

As a result, senators and members of the House have avoided Akpabio and Abbas in their desperation to serve on ‘juicy’ committees.

They have now resorted to lobbying the presidential aide in the National Assembly, who has the ace in the hole.

The presidential assistant is said to have bypassed the Senate president and House speaker in selecting federal politicians to serve as committee chairmen.

The committee chairs are anticipated to be announced on July 27, just before both chambers go on recess.

As of Friday, the presidential adviser was putting the finishing touches on the lists of committee chairs and their deputies in both chambers.

The aide, who was once a presiding officer of one of the National Assembly chambers, is anticipated to pass over the “approved and final lists” of committee chairmen to Akpabio and Abbas ahead of the July 27th deadline.

of our National Assembly sources told us that Akpabio and Abbas’ duties would be simply to declare the names of members previously pencilled in by the Presidency as chairs and deputies of the various committees at the July 27 session.

According to another source in the National Assembly, most senators and House members who “no longer consider Akpabio and Abbas relevant and important in the scheme of things” preferred to contact the presidential assistant.
