Christian Williams, a jumps trainer, recently underwent a “drastic” haircut in solidarity with his six-year-old daughter, Betsy Williams.
Betsy had been battling acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. Betsy’s diagnosis came during the Cheltenham Festival in March, and she has now started chemotherapy treatments that will continue for six months, resulting in the loss of her hair.

In support of his daughter, Christian decided to cut his own long, shaggy hair, and he unveiled his new appearance on Sky Sports Racing during an interview at Uttoxeter on Monday.
Presenter Luke Harvey had triggered the revelation when he said, “This is Christian Williams who formerly looked like somebody out of Glastonbury. That’s a bit of a drastic haircut.”
In response, the trainer said: “The little one is not very well at the moment. All her hair came out last week. I was booked in anyway, so I decided to take it all off.”
Christian and his wife, Charlotte, have faced challenging times since Betsy’s diagnosis, but they have been uplifted by the kindness and support from others.
“Things have felt a bit desperate sometimes and we’ve been down in the dumps and had our dark days, but people have just been so kind. It really lifts you – even just the messages on Twitter,” Charlotte said.
“People’s kindness gets you through the crappy days.”
Christian explained that Betsy’s condition inspired him to take the bold step, as she had experienced hair loss due to her treatment.
Even messages on social media platforms like Twitter have helped them get through difficult days.

Amidst the family’s journey through this difficult period, there have been some emotional triumphs as well.
In April, Kitty’s Light, trained by Christian Williams, won the Scottish Grand National, followed by another victory in the Bet365 Gold Cup, providing moments of joy for the family during a challenging time.
