The Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba has announced in a media briefing on Monday that the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) candidates who tested positive for coronavirus have recovered from the virus.

Recall that Nigerian schools were sealed in March to cap the spread of the virus. As a result, the WASSCE was suspended twice since the national lockdown started due to concerns over the safety of students.

Therefore, at least 33 final year secondary students in four states were reported to have tested positive for the novel disease two weeks after the beginning of the WASSCE. “We’ve confirmed that all of them are back in class. They have now been tested negative. We do not have any further cases,” said Nwajiuba.
