After Five Hours Grilling, the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) has reportedly released the Wife of Kano state Governor, Dr. Hafsat Umar Ganduje The Guardian reports.

Dr. Hafsat Ganduje, who was compelled to report herself to EFCC headquarters in Abuja on Sunday, was quizzed for more than five hours for her alleged involvement in a land scandal. The governor’s wife, who was drilled over alleged illegal hijack of land property worth billions of naira, was granted an administrative bill under the influence of her husband.

Governor Ganduje, who accompanied his wife to the EFCC headquarters, was said to have prevailed on the power that is with strong influenced that eventually see to the released of his wife. The Governor and his wife returned to Kano through Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano Tuesday morning.

The EFCC had arrested Hafsat, over allegations of bribery and fraud. The EFCC had acted based on a petition by her son, Abdulazeez, according to a report by Premium Times.

Hafsat was arrested on Monday evening and was still at EFCC headquarters as of 6 am on Tuesday. She was arrested after failing to show up at the EFCC Abuja headquarters on September 13 upon invitation. She was said to have travelled to the UK at the time to attend the graduation ceremony of her son. 

Mr. Abdulazeez was said to have reported his mother to the commission for corruptly using family power and status for personal enrichment. In his petition, he stated that he was approached by a property developer to help facilitate the acquisition of some plots of land in Kano with some hundreds of thousands of US dollars and at least 35 million naira as “facilitation commission”.

He was said to have paid the money to his mother. “But three months later, the property developer discovered that the plots of land he wanted and had paid for had been allocated to other buyers. He then requested to be refunded,” a source was quoted to have said.
