Microsoft released the original Xbox on November 15th, 2001, forever changing the console landscape. Twenty years later, the company intends to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of its first-ever home system by releasing a slew of translucent accessories, including the Xbox Series X/S controller shown above.

According to Microsoft, the translucent design is a nod to the see-through controllers that came with the original Xbox debug kit — though I imagine most people will associate it with the N64’s iconic Atomic Purple controller, which is a good thing.
Microsoft added a nice touch here by making the internal components silver to make them easier to see. The signature green colour of the brand is used for accent details such as the rear grips.
Aside from those visual flourishes, it functions exactly like any other Xbox Wireless controller available from Microsoft. Expect Bluetooth for PC and mobile pairing, button mapping support, and a better d-pad than previous Xbox generations’ controllers.
Starting today, you can pre-order the 20th Anniversary Special Edition controller for $69.99 from the Microsoft Store. It will also be available through various retailers on November 15th.

If you can’t justify adding another controller to your collection, Microsoft plans to release a $69.99 20th Anniversary Special Edition Stereo Headset. Unfortunately, it does not embrace the translucent aesthetic as much as its counterpart, but it still appears to be a good showpiece.
