Nigerian actress and movie producer, Mary Lazarus, has taken to her Instagram page to share her experience while burying her mother.

The actress’ mother passed away in July, and her funeral ceremonies were just completed.

Mary Lazarus criticized the extortion that occurs in Igbo land when people are trying to bury their dear ones, citing her own experience.

She stated that people who had never been a part of the bereaved and deceased’s lives appeared, demanding various things before the burial could take place.

She discussed some of the demands made for her mother’s burial, as well as how she felt about them.

She went on to say that it’s “wrong” and that it puts individuals under “unnecessary stress.”

Mary Lazarus is from Abia State in Nigeria, a southeastern geographical location predominantly occupied by the Igbo people. She is specifically from Ukwa East Local Government Area of Abia State and was born into a family of nine consisting of a mother, a father and six siblings of which she is a twin and one of the last born children of the family alongside her twin brother named Joseph.
