Squid Game, Netflix’s most popular series, is estimated to be worth about $US900 million ($A1.2 billion), according to Bloomberg News, citing numbers from an internal Netflix document.

When it premiered last month, the nine-episode thriller, in which players recreate childhood games with terrible repercussions in the hopes of winning 45.6 billion won ($A52 million), became an international hit.

One interesting thing about the series is the idea that no matter how vicious and brutal it is, the poor cash-strapped souls taking part are supposed to have a fair and equal chance.

According to Bloomberg, the show cost only $US21.4 million ($A28.8 million) to produce in compared to its projected net worth.

The report revealed that 132 million people had seen at least two minutes of the show in its first 23 days, easily beating the previous record of 82 million accounts in the first 28 days set by US drama Bridgerton.

Netflix had previously stated that the show had 111 million viewers, however Bloomberg stated that those numbers were based on slightly older data.

The news agency stated that California-based Netflix estimated 89 percent of viewers who started watching the show watched more than one episode, and 66% finished viewing it in the first 23 days.
