American rapper, singer, and songwriter, Willie Junior Maxwell II, better known by his stage name Fetty Wap, has been arrested and charged for conspiring to transport significant quantities of heroin, fentanyl, and other substances into the New York City area.

The rapper was arrested at Citi Field on Thursday, October 28, during the three-day Rolling Loud hip-hop music event.

On Friday, October 29, he was charged.

Maxwell and five other defendants, including a New Jersey prison officer, were identified in an indictment unsealed on Friday.

In a statement, Michael J. Driscoll, a top official with the FBI’s New York office, said: “The fact that we arrested a chart-topping rap artist and a corrections officer as part of the conspiracy illustrates just how vile the drug trade has become.”

Maxwell and his co-defendants are accused of conspiring to possess and distribute more than 100 kilos of heroin, fentanyl, and crack cocaine between June 2019 and June 2020, according to the indictment. Authorities said the narcotics were transported from the West Coast to Long Island via the US Postal Service and cars with concealed compartments, where they were stored for distribution to dealers on Long Island and in New Jersey.

Fetty Wap has had previous run-ins with the authorities, including an arrest in Las Vegas in 2019 for attacking three hotel-casino employees. He was also detained and charged with DUI in November 2017 after police allege he was drag racing on a New York City highway.
