The United States is experiencing the adverse effect of premature easing of lockdown as the number of confirmed coronavirus cases hit 1,011,877 on Tuesday according to SurgeZirc U.S. report and AFP.

The number is far more than doubling in less than twenty-one days, following a data that was compiled by Johns Hopkins University, with 58,351 deaths, a larger loss of life than what was recorded by the US military in the Vietnam War.

The U.S, which is home to about 4% of the global population, has confirmed nearly one-third of the global more than 3 million confirmed coronavirus infections. China learnt of the first known cases of the coronavirus in December 2019.

It took almost four months for the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the U.S. to reach 500,000 on April 10 but has more than doubled in less than three weeks after easing lockdown.

Of more than 213,000 people that have died of COVID-19 globally, about 25% have occurred in the U.S.
