N1.3 billion has been set aside by the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC for funeral grants, Christmas rewards, and severance allowances of staff members in 2022.
The Senate Committee on INEC, led by Senator Kabiru Gaya, is considering the commission’s budget profile of N140bn.
“Welfare package for members and staff of the commission to cover funeral grants/condolence purse, 1st 28 days claims on first appointment/transfers, severance allowances of public officers, transport allowances on retirement for career officers, Christmas/ Bonus, etc,” the body laid out the things under the budget.

In a different detail, N200 million was reserved for legal and electing review of the commission’s records separated from the N30 million budgeted for Audit/Investigation support administration.
N3 billion was likewise proposed for social commitment by the commission.
