The trial of renowned Afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti, faced a setback on Monday due to the absence of the Chief Magistrate, Adeola Olatunbosun.
The proceeding, originally scheduled for July 3 at the Yaba Magistrates’ court, had to be adjourned as the Magistrate was on administrative leave and thus not present in court.

In light of the Magistrate’s absence, the case was adjourned until September 27, 2023, for the continuation of the proceedings. The registrar, Babalola, made the decision to postpone the trial.
Seun Kuti had been charged with allegedly assaulting a police officer on May 13 while on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State.
The incident sparked considerable attention, as it was seen as another instance of celebrities misusing their influence and disregarding law enforcement officials under the assumption that they are above the law.

However, the absence of Chief Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun due to her administrative leave forced the adjournment of the case.
