Aliero has surpassed Tambuwal in the race for minority leader, with LP’s King Ibe taking the top spot.

According to reports, Senator Adamu Aliero, the leader of the opposition caucus, is planning to become the Minority Leader of the 10th Senate, despite the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, supporting former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal.

According to media reports, Aliero paid a visit to Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Tuesday to inform him that several opposition senators had unanimously elected him as minority leader.

Aliero went to meet the Senate President that we, the opposition lawmakers, have agreed to make him the minority leader, a senator from the Northwest remarked.

Others are also fighting for themselves, so you can see that the PDP is up against a slew of obstacles, with various interests vested everywhere.

Although the PDP has yet to inform members of its plans, the writing on the wall indicates that it is heading to the North-West.

That means it’s going to be a battle between Tambuwal and Aliero.

According to lawmakers, Aliero’s connection to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu offers him an advantage over Tambuwal.

If things are not done carefully, the member warned, this could be the end of the opposition caucus, particularly the PDP.

Everyone aspires to be the minority leader. Nobody appears to want to step down to help the other person.

Atiku may want Tambuwal, but Aliero appears to be pulling some weight. A slew of personal interests that could split the PDP former Rivers State governor Nyesom Wike and his men.

Meanwhile, Senator Ireti Kingibe of the Federal Capital Territory is expected to be elected Deputy Minority Leader.

According to reports, the opposition caucus decided to hand over the deputy minority leader position to Kingibe in exchange for her support for Akpabio’s election as Senate President and for gender balance.

According to a source, King Ibe will be appointed deputy minority leader. The Minority Whip will most likely be assigned to the South-West. The deputy minority whip’s position has not been filled, so it’s unclear if PDP will also give one to the opposition parties.

Those who will emerge as the chamber’s primary officers may become obvious next week when it reconvenes.
