Hailing from Villarreal, Torres emerged from the ranks of his hometown club and eventually became a vital player for the La Liga side.
Notably, he played a crucial role in Villarreal’s triumph in the 2021 Europa League, guided by manager Unai Emery.
Additionally, he contributed significantly to their journey to the semi-finals of the Champions League the following year.
However, the completion of the transfer is contingent upon international clearance and a successful visa application.
Torres received his initial call-up to the Spanish national team from Robert Moreno on October 4, 2019, for the UEFA Euro 2020 qualifiers against Norway and Sweden.
Although his debut didn’t occur until November, he made an immediate impact by scoring within a minute of replacing Sergio Ramos in a 7-0 victory over Malta.
Notably, this game also witnessed Dani Olmo scoring on his first cap, marking the first instance of two Spaniards achieving such a feat in precisely three decades.
Torres was subsequently included in Luis Enrique’s 24-man squad for the Euro 2020 finals.
Additionally, he was selected for the Olympic team that secured a silver medal at the Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
Aston Villa’s signing of Pau Torres from Villarreal marks the arrival of a talented Spanish center-back to the club.
Having emerged from Villarreal’s youth system, Torres played a crucial role in helping his boyhood team secure a fifth-place finish in La Liga last season.
With 173 appearances and 12 goals to his name for Villarreal, Torres has also established himself as a regular presence for the Spanish national team, accumulating 23 appearances thus far.
