He also proposed harmonising Africa’s military forces to ensure that the Niger coup does not succeed, as this would enhance Africa’s democracy and restore sanity to civilian administration in Africa.
The monarch, who made the demand in an Osogbo statement, insisted that President Tinubu use his good offices to resist the coup at all costs.
“President Tinubu should use his position as ECOWAS chairman to avert military government and return the state to a civilian system,” he says.
According to a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Alli Ibraheem, “Democracy in Africa must be strengthened through promotion of democratic systems of government free of military incursion and interference.”
“The call becomes necessary on Tinubu for two reasons: he is the ECOWAS chairman and the President of Nigeria, who is regarded as Africa’s giant.”
Under your leadership as ECOWAS chairman, no coup must endure. External authorities and forces must be mobilised to help Africa achieve democracy and sanity.”
“The primary responsibility of ECOWAS authority is to defend democracy.” Tinubu, I am confident, will lead the body constructively by fortifying the system in favour of democracy.
