    Baba-Yusuf Gets Senate Confirmation as CJ of FCT high court

    The Senate has confirmed Husseini Baba-Yusuf as the chief judge of the federal capital territory (FCT) high court.

    The upper legislative chamber confirmed Baba-Yusuf as the substantive head of the FCT high court after Opeyemi Bamidele, chairman of the Senate committee on judiciary, human rights and legal matters, presented a report for the consideration of his colleagues. While presenting his report on Tuesday, Bamidele said the judge met all the requirements expected of him.

    The development followed the resignation of Salisu Garba as the chief judge of the FCT high court. Baba-Yusuf has been holding the position in acting capacity since August.
    Last week, Ovie Omo-Agege, deputy president of the senate, read President Muhammadu Buhari’s request to confirm Baba-Yusuf.

    Buhari premised his request on section 256 (1) of the constitution.

    “In accordance with provisions of Section 256 (1) of the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended, I hereby forward for confirmation by the senate the appointment of Justice Husseini Baba-Yusuf as the chief judge of the high court of the federal capital territory (FCT) Abuja,” the president had said.

    “While hoping that this request will receive the usual expeditious consideration of the senate, please accept the distinguished senate president, the assurances of my highest regards.”
