Many rural settlements in Kagarko Chiefdom were under siege by bandits who abducted people and farmers a few months ago, according to reports.
However, the situation was claimed to be under control when troops searched their hideouts and some rural communities, arresting several alleged informants.
Suleiman Aliyu, a traditional title holder in Kagarko, told our reporter over the phone on Wednesday that the army, who arrived in Kagarko town at 11 a.m. in Hilux vans, trucks, motorcycles and other vehicles were dispatched to Iche, Taka-Lafiya, Gidan Makeri, and Janjala villages in the surrounding woodland to track down the robbers.
He explained that the army arrived after receiving data that some fleeing bandits from the far north were relocating to build a camp around certain villages in the vicinity.
While praising the military’ efforts, Aliyu said that since some informants were apprehended, inhabitants of Kagarko Chiefdom had breathed a sigh of relief.
