On Tuesday night, Bayern Munich moved seven-points clear at the top of the table when they narrowly defeated title contenders Borussia Dortmund in German Klassiker fixture.
Before Tuesday night’s game in Signal Iduna Park, both teams were on a six-game winning streak in a closely contested title race. Bayern Munich ended Dortmund’s winning streak by emerging victors in the game played behind closed doors.
Bayern Munich’s defender Joshua Kimmich scored what proved to be the only goal and match winner just before half-time with an audacious chip shot over Roman Burki from 20yards.
In the second half, Borussia Dortmund lost prolific striker Erling Haaland to injury. They had a penalty claim denied and Mahmoud Dahoud come close to scoring for the home side but could not find a way through.

Dortmund being the hosts of Tuesday night’s Klassiker encounter, came into the game with the best home record in the Bundesliga this season would have been ahead within 29seconds if Bayern’s defender, Jerome Boateng had not bailed his goalie Manuel Neuer by blocking Haaland’s shot.
Bayern Munich’s winger, Serge Gnabry was next to come close to scoring when he fired a shot past Dortmund’s goalkeeper Roman Burki but it was intercepted by Lukasz Piszczek of Dortmund.
Later in the second half, Dortmund got their penalty claim denied after being reviewed by VAR when Haaland’s shot caught Boateng on the arm.

A victory for Bayern Munich on Tuesday night relieved them of the pressure heaped on them by Borussia Dortmund. Bayern Munich now has a seven-point lead at the top of the table with just six games left to play.
This weekend, Bayern Munich host league strugglers Fortuna Dusseldorf, while Dortmund travels to Paderborn.
