Benue State Governor assures Civil servants of payments on June 25th. Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, guaranteed workers in the state that they will be paid unfailingly on said date.

Alia, who was chastised by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for canceling the hiring of nearly 5,000 personnel last month, stated that his administration’s goal was not to conduct witch hunts, but to fix inconsistencies in the state’s previous administration.

The governor stated that he decided to revoke the previous administration’s recruiting exercise in the Benue State Civil Service because due process was not followed and the recruitment was uneven, favoring only a few local councils to the detriment of others.

He stated that his government was forced to make the difficult decision because no budgetary provision had been made for the recruitment, and the state solicitor-general was also not kept informed throughout the process.

The governor stated that those who were promoted to the position of permanent secretary but were requested to return to their prior positions were promoted as a cover-up without due process.

He said that rescinding such promotions was in the best interests of the state. Recalling the significance of June 12 and democracy to Nigerians, Alia stated that he has been given the mandate to guide the affairs of the state for the next four years through the instrument of democracy and requested the support and prayers of all Benue citizens for his administration.

He did, however, thank his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), as well as all the market men and women, Okada riders, and everyone who helped him become Benue State’s sixth democratically elected Governor.

He also encouraged people not to give up since, with everyone’s help, “a new Benue is possible.”
