Breaking News as, Godswill Akpabio, a former governor of Akwa Ibom State, has been chosen as Senate President of the Tenth Assembly.
Akpabio, the All Progressives Congress’s favored candidate, was paired with Jibrin Barau, the senator representing Kano South.

The voting for a new Senate President has begun, with Akpabio and former Zamfara State Governor, Senator-elect Abdulazeez Yari, going toe to toe.
After a short break, Sani Tambuwal, the Clerk of the National Assembly, declared Akpabio the Senate President, with 63 votes to his rival’s 46.
In contrast to the declared schedule of 10 a.m., the election began before 9 a.m. Following the Clerk of the National Assembly’s request for nominations, Ali Ndume, senator-elect for Borno South, proposed Godswill Akpabio, senator-elect for Akwa-Ibom North-East, as President of the Senate.
Elisha Abbo, senator-elect for Adamawa North, nominated Abdulaziz Yari, senator-elect for Zamfara West, and Akpabio accepted the nomination. Senators objected to Yari’s inability to run for office as a first-time senator.

After a hotly contested election, and at the completion of voting by the federal parliamentarians, Senator Ali Ndume nominated Senator Akpabio, who is supported by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), for Senate President, while Senator Elisha Abbo nominated former Governor of Zamfara State, Abdullaziz Yari.
Yari was paired with the ninth district’s Chief Whip. Yari stood for Deputy Senate President alongside Orji Kalu, the Chief Whip of the Ninth Senate.
