Buhari set to fly to Niger Republic to open a Boulevard named after him, attend the AU Summit, and launch a book, as all part of his retirement plan.

This comes just over two weeks after the inauguration of the new President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Buhari returned from the United Kingdom not long before the swearing in on May 13th.

After attending a security council meeting and a conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers in Owerri, Imo State, the President went to the United Kingdom for another two week medical trip.

President Muhammadu Buhari left for the  Republic of Niger on Thursday to attend the African Union Summit on Industrialization and Economic Diversification, as well as the Extraordinary Session on the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA).

President Buhari will also attend the launch of a French version of the book titled “Muhammadu Buhari: The Challenges of Leadership in Nigeria,” according to a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, on Wednesday. He will also inaugurate the ‘Muhammadu Buhari Boulevard,’ named after him by the Republic of Niger government.

The naming of the Boulevard and the launch of the French version of the Book, written by John Paden, a Professor of International Relations,” according to the statement.The AU Summit will be held on Friday, at George Mason University in northern Virginia, USA.

President Buhari will deliver his National Statement at the African Union Summit on Industrialization and Economic Diversification, which will be held under the subject “Industrialising Africa: Renewed Commitment to Inclusive and Sustainable Industrialization and Economic Diversification.”

The High-Level Summit, convened as part of the annual commemorative activities of Africa Industrialization Week, is expected to adopt a Declaration highlighting the importance of industrialization and economic transformation in the continent and how to make progress in this regard.

According to the President’s spokeswoman, the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of Africa declared November 20 of each year as Africa Industrialization Day.
The Organization of African Unity was founded in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in July 1989.

Meanwhile, the AFCFTA Extraordinary Session is expected to adopt the Phase II Protocols of the continental free trade area as well as launch additional operation tools, Shehu stated.

Nigeria has maintained a strong commitment to the full operationalization of a pan-African free trade zone that will create a single market for goods and services, liberalize and facilitate the movement of investment and business people across the continent.
