Famous Nigerian musician and activist, Charles Emeka Oputa, widely known as Charly Boy, has threatened legal action against his former record label, Premier Records Limited, citing an alleged breach of their 1988 contract.

According to the letter, Charly Boy signed multiple “artists recording contracts” with Premier Records in 1988, 1990, and more recently, all of which have now expired.
The artist alleges that despite the contracts expiring, the record label is still infringing on the copyrights of his musical works.
In the letter, Charly Boy’s lawyer states, – “On our client’s instructions, we demand that your company hand over our client’s master tapes, artworks,
-promo collateral for the music, and other relevant and confidential information within 30 days of the date of this letter.
-We also demand your company’s payment of our client’s outstanding royalties.”
The statement further emphasizes the need for Premier Records to cease any further breaches of Charly Boy’s copyrights on the musical works produced during the expired contract period.
The lawyer argues that the conditions and considerations for the contracts were not met and fulfilled.
