Colchester United have secured the loan signing of Mauro Bandeira from Arsenal, bolstering its squad for the upcoming season.
The nineteen-year-old Portuguese midfielder has signed the one-year deal, which will keep him at the club in north Essex until the following summer.

Bandeira’s football journey began in the Queens Park Rangers Academy during his youth, but he caught Arsenal’s attention at the age of thirteen and made the move to North London.
Progressing through the ranks at Arsenal, he earned his first professional contract with the Gunners in the summer of 2022.
SurgeZirc NG learned via a post on the club’s official website that the young midfielder will join his new teammates for training on Tuesday afternoon.
This will be followed by an evening fixture on the same day against Stevenage, which will be held at St Neot’s FC.
Colchester United officially announced the signing of Mauro Bandeira on loan for the 2023/24 campaign earlier this morning, generating excitement among fans and the football community.
Bandeira showcased his skills and potential as a regular for Arsenal’s under-21s team last season.
He featured in 20 Premier League 2 matches and made three appearances in the EFL Trophy.
Notably, he also contributed to the team’s run in the Premier League Cup, scoring a crucial extra-time winner in the Round of 16.
Although Bandeira managed to catch the attention of Arsenal’s boss Mikel Arteta, toward the end of last season, his playing time was limited due to intense competition in midfield.
Moreover, with the recent addition of Declan Rice to Arsenal’s squad during the summer transfer window, the chances of consistent minutes for Bandeira diminished.
Thus, the loan move to Colchester United presents an excellent opportunity for him to gain valuable experience and regular playing time.
Interestingly, Bandeira follows in the footsteps of another Arsenal youth player, Tom Smith, who spent time on loan at Colchester United in the second half of the previous season.
Smith played a significant role in helping the club avoid relegation, which likely contributed to Colchester United’s interest in securing another loan deal with an Arsenal academy product this season.
